Programme Overview

The Two-Year PGDM programme has been designed keeping in view the need to align the programme outcomes to the vision and mission of the institute, provide holistic development and employable skills to students and the suggestions and feedback collected from time-to-time from major recruiters, industry experts and alumni. The institute makes continuous efforts to keep the curriculum contemporary and relevant to the current business scenario both in terms of the courses offered and the pedagogical tools used. Important and major revisions in the curriculum are discussed both in the academic council and academic advisory board involving academicians and industry persons before implementing the changes.

The PGDM programmes at SIMS, aim at creating holistic managers, synthesizing conventional and modern management thinking with a global outlook. SIMS equips students with a sound knowledge of all core business skills together with the ability to manage creatively from a strategic perspective within the context of ethical standards. Appreciating the pace and direction of changes in business education, the programme structure at SIMS is constantly updated in line with the changing needs of the business world. Learning Objectives and Outcomes

Learning outcomes are statements of what a student is expected to know, understand, and/or be able to demonstrate on successful completion of the PGDM programme at SIMS. Learning outcomes represent a more modern “student-centered” approach, which emphasizes outputs in terms of student competencies. To create a consistent framework within which we can track student development and progress into competent business and management professionals as our mission states, the following five outcome dimensions across all courses and activities to evaluate the students:

Have demonstrated knowledge & understanding that is founded upon &extends and/or enhances that typically associated with bachelor’s degree level, &that provides a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and/or applying ideas, often within a research context.

Can apply their knowledge and understanding, and problem- solving abilities in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study.

Have the ability to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, and formulate decisions with incomplete or limited information, but that include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgements.

Can communicate their conclusions, and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these, to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously.

Have the learning skills to allow them to continue to study in a manner that may be largely self-directed or autonomous.

Course Curriculum

The curriculum is the result of constant innovation and continuous review by the faculty with help from practitioners in industry, alumni, and students. The programme offers five types of courses spread across two years viz. foundation, core courses, elective courses, cluster courses and self-learning courses. It also provides opportunities for field studies and project work.

PGDM vs PGDM(General)

The PGDM course permits electives from any two Specializations whereas PGDM(General) facilitates choosing electives from the basket of offerings.
The courses are equivalent to MBA which is certified by Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
